2018 Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival

LAAPFF2018 Partners with the California Tobacco Control Program

The 2018 Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival has started, and we are trying to find ways to stay healthy to make sure we finish strong.  We’ve been trying to keep one another accountable for things like eating healthy and kicking bad habits. Not only do we want to make sure we stay healthy during the Festival – but we would like to make sure that our Festival guests, especially our young ones, stay healthy too.

This year, we are partnering with the California Tobacco Control Program during the Festival. They will be sponsoring our youth media program “From Vision to Reel: GenerASIANS” and human rights film ANOTE’S ARK.

The California Tobacco Control Program has shared the following facts with us:

  • There are more than 15,500 e-cigarette flavors on the market and counting.
  • Tobacco companies try to get kids hooked on nicotine at a time when their brains are most susceptible to addiction, so they make tobacco products with flavors like bubblegum, razzleberry, mango, chocolate, and taro.
  • 4 out of 5 kids who use tobacco started with a flavored product. These tobacco products are toxic and highly addictive. Click here to learn more facts.

We are giving away tickets to our Closing Night film MATANGI / MAYA / M.I.A. on Thursday, May 10th. Check out our Facebook or Instagram to learn how to win.

The California Tobacco Control Program is a proud sponsor of the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival. They are spreading the word to parents about the dangers of flavored tobacco products, including e-cigs, which more and more kids use because they come in flavors like mango and strawberry. All tobacco products are toxic and highly addictive. Visit FlavorsHookKids.org for more info.
