Under the Same Sky
同在蓝天下
Directed by Yoyo Li
Description
In 2014, the Chinese government started a new national campaign on equal elementary education, but at the same time strengthened the residential registration system to segregate the rural and urban areas. Through this documentary, watch as class and regional lines collide to debunk the Chinese propaganda about equality. The truth: the elementary education in China puts young children under unbearable and shocking pressure. Having personally suffered from the Chinese education system while growing up, the director shares its deep-seated political influence.
Director's Bio
Tired of being censored by the Chinese government on what stories she could tell, Yoyo embarked on her own journey to Los Angeles and is currently attending Loyola Marymount University. While receiving her Masters in Film Production, she has discovered that her voice has been unheard for far too long and seeks to share stories of adversity, gender, and fantasy.
